Google's Nexus 5, Nexus 7 hit Indian shores

NEW DELHI: Smartphone enthusiasts can now buy the latest Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 in India from the Google stable in India, priced Rs 28,999 onwards. 

Nexus 5, which is now available on Google's Play store for Indian consumers, is the first device powered by the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. 

The 16GB model of Nexus 5 would be available for Rs 28,999, while the 32GB model would cost Rs 32,999, according to information on Google Playstore. 
Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 2.26 GHz processor, the handset has a 4.95-inch screen, 8MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front camera, wireless charging and supports 4G/LTE. 

Nexus 7, the seven-inch tablet from Google, will be priced at Rs 20,999 (16GB) and Rs 23,999 (32GB) for the WiFi version, while the 32GB LTE variant will cost Rs 27,999. 

With a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB RAM, Nexus 7 features a 1.2MP front facing and 5MP rear facing camera.

The device, which lets you make phone calls, send emails and surf the web, will be unveiled on Sept. 4, two days before the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, according to Bloomberg. Asia’s biggest technology company is racing against other electronics makers, including Sony, to create a new industry of wearable devices as the market for top-end smartphones nears saturation. The global watch industry will generate more than Samsung Galaxy Gear Smart WatchUS60 billion in sales this year, and the first companies to sell devices that multitask could lock customers into their platform, boosting sales of smartphones, tablets and TVs.

Galaxy Gear will come in a metal body with glass and fibre. Naturally, the watch being a smartwatch will easily sync with smartphones to perform functions like internet access, calling, camera, etc. Which platform Samsung bases the smartwatch onis no secret as the leaks have all indicated towards an Android watch Android platform (the name ‘Galaxy’ being more than a hint here). Also, it wouldn’t really make sense to base the smartwatch on any other platform! We would love to see a Jelly Bean 4.3 smartwatch but we think Samsung might restrict the OS to previous tried and tested versions. Also, another interesting point would the compatibility with smartphones. Will the smartwatch be compatible with just Samsung devices or even other Android gadgets?
